DuoPlus

Andrea Carola Kiefer, accordion
Ingólfur Vilhjálmsson, clarinet/bass clarinet

DuoPlus has been founded in 2005 and focuses on the performance of newest contemporary music. Emphasis is laid on the close interaction with composers during the creation  process and interpretation of new works.  The duo cooperated with Toshio Hosokawa and performed at his portrait concert in 2006 at Westdeutscher Rundfunk. Also in 2006, "Duo concertante" for ensemble, clarinet and accordion by Tomi Räisänen saw its first German performance by DuoPlus.

DuoPlus
Accordion and clarinet blend well together, both being aerophones with reed tongues, posessing similar characteristics of sound production and timbre. Nice as these shared properties are, they do not exclude the possibility of brusque contrasts. Enriched by contemporary playing techniques, this instrumental combination offers a wide range of colours and expressions.

Since the existing repertoire is limited, both musicians are eager to evoque interest for their duo combination and initiate new compositions. They already succeeded to expand their repertoire with works written for them by Ying Wang, Chikage Imai, and Einar Torfi Einarsson. Occasionally, the combination of instruments is varied or supplemented as the name DuoPlus suggests.
